Adele Laurie Blue Adkins, better known simply as Adele, is an English singer, songwriter, musician, and multi-instrumentalist. Adele was offered a recording contract from XL Recordings after a friend posted her demo on Myspace in 2006. The next year she received the Brit Awards "Critics' Choice" award and won the BBC Sound of 2008. Her debut album, 19, was released in 2008 to much commercial and critical success. It certified four times platinum in the UK, and double platinum in the US. Her career in the US was boosted by a Saturday Night Live appearance in late 2008. At the 2009 Grammy Awards, Adele received the awards for Best New Artist and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance.
Set Fire To the Rain has followed in the footsteps of its two predecessors from 21 in reaching across a wide range of genre charts in the US. It has appeared on rock, dance, Latin, and pop charts. It was written by Adkins, Adele Laurie Blue / Smith, Fraser Lance Thorneycroft.
And the album, 21 is the second studio album. Released on 24 January 2011 in most of Europe, and on 22 February 2011 in North America, it was named after the age of the singer during its production. The album shares the folk and Motown soul influences of her 2008 debut album 19, but was further inspired by the American country and Southern blues music she had been exposed to during her 2008–2009 North American tour An Evening with Adele. Composed in the aftermath of the singer's separation from her partner, the album explores themes of anger, revenge, heartbreak, self-examination, and forgiveness.
Many of the songs on 21 such as this one are about the heartbreaking ending of Adele's first real relationship. She told MTV News in an interview to plug the album's release: "It broke my heart when I wrote this record, so the fact that people are taking it to their hearts is like the best way to recover. 'Cause I'm still not fully recovered. It's going to take me 10 years to recover, I think, from the way I feel about my last relationship. It was the biggest deal in my entire life to date. He made me totally hungry. He was older, he was successful in his own right, whereas my boyfriends before were my age and not really doing much. And he got me interested in film and literature and food and wine and traveling and politics and history, and those were things I was never, ever interested in. I was interested in going clubbing and getting drunk."
Set Fire to the Rain was released on 21 November 2011 as 21's third official single in the United States, and has since peaked at number one on the Billboard Hot 100. The song is the third consecutive number-one single of the same album; the last female singer who achieved this was Katy Perry in 2010 when "Firework" hit number one. Adele is the first female British artist in history to have three consecutive US number ones. With "Rolling in the Deep", "Someone like You" and "Set Fire to the Rain" Adele logged a total of 14 weeks atop of the Billboard Hot 100, this is the most number of weeks at number one a British female artist has had from the same album. The song was voted by readers ofBillboard as their favorite number one hit of 2012.
And Adele performed the song live for the first time on 29 April on The Graham Norton Show. She also performed the track on 3 May at Jools Holland along with the selections "Rolling in the Deep", "Don't You Remember" and "Take It All". Adele also added the song to the set list of her second worldwide tour. FXused "Set Fire to the Rain" to promote the final season of Rescue Me and the show's series finale. The song was also featured in promotional ads for the TV series Ringer and Revenge, which brought it airplay in the United States without her label having to release it to radio stations. It was also used as an "insert theme" on the 2012 Fuji TV series Iki mo dekinai natsu.

Setting fire to the rain, for me is about doing the impossible. I think that the song is about a relationship in which she knows (mind) the relationship wrong and destroying her but when she sees him (heart) she cannot resist going back to him for the moment only knowing that in the morning he will hurt her again by leaving. I wonder if it is not so much about a new relationship as it is with the same guy. He ignores her with no real commitment, but then he comes around and she is too unstable or unhealthy to say NO. When he is not there, she longs for him even though he hurts her over and over. Her mind says the relationship is over, but her passion gives in when he shows up or contacts her. Her is a jerk and she is not strong enough to not give in.....wonder if this could be a dream?
All in all, with the release of her second album 21 the floodgates opened and she turned into a worldwide superstar with three consecutive #1 hit singles in the US. Except for Set Fire to the Rain, there are several other best songs.
One is Rolling In the Deep. Rolling In the Deep is the song that turned Adele into a pop superstar in the US. Fusing elements of pop, blues, disco, and gospel, it is a song that is without specific genre. Consequently, "Rolling In the Deep" set aBillboard record for appearing on more different genre radio charts than any other song. "Rolling In the Deep" was released as the first single from Adele's second album 21. It has sold nearly six million copies in the US alone and spent seven weeks at the top of the Billboard Hot 100. "Rolling In the Deep" has been nominated for Grammy Awards for Record of the Year and Song of the Year.
Someone Like You is another one. Adele says that she wrote "Someone Like You" when she was exhausted from writing angry songs about her broken relationship. She wrote it to feel OK with herself about the two years in the relationship. Adele performed "Someone Like You" live at the Brit Awards in February 2011 and nearly broke down in tears at the end. The performance was lauded with praise and the song nearly instantly went to the top of the UK pop singles chart. In August of 2011 Adele performed the song live at the MTV Music Awards and it had similar chart impact in the US climbing to the top of the Billboard Hot 100 for five weeks.
Beside, Skyfall is also melodious. Adele was hesitant to accept the assignment to perform the next James Bond theme song. However, after she and producer/songwriter Paul Epworth ("Rolling In the Deep") completed "Skyfall," she said it was a fun experience. The pair looked back at such classic James Bond themes as "Goldfinger" and "Live and Let Die" for inspiration. The final product was an instant commercial and critical success.
